Walking the Path with Yoga
My approach to yoga is playful, honest, and sincere, and this begins with a great respect for both yoga asanas and philosophy. I hope to assist my students to awaken awareness and cultivate comfort within their physical practice, as well as, throughout their lives. My students are encouraged to discover the effects of each pose for themselves and be let go of worrying if they are “doing it right” or what they happen to look like, and instead focus on how they are feeling and the benefits they receive from their own personal practice.
My love affair with yoga began in 2001 and in 2009 I decided to further my personal practice by attending Namaskar Yoga’s RYT200 Yoga Teacher Training with Kathleen Podiluk (E-RYT200). Once I finished my 200 hours I began to spread by wings by offering free classes to women living in Saskatoon’s inner city, as well as, holding small classes in the communities surrounding Saskatoon. I also traveled throughout western Canada to specialized teacher trainings to continue to broaden my knowledge base and grow as a student and teacher. As I grew more confident my class sizes also grew, as did the positive effects of yoga in my life.
My classes are appropriate for people at all levels of yoga experience, physical ability, and age. All you need is the willingness to start where you are and be open to whatever arises. I encourage my students to be constantly evaluating where they are in their own bodies and to work from that new place, each day. I recognize the importance of creating a safe space where all are accepted and are able to learn and practice without expectations and judgment, and believe that Yoga is truly inclusive and should be adapted to fit each individual and offers a comfortable and supportive environment where each are encouraged to do what feels best for their individual body each day.
My prenatal yoga practice is dedicated to providing holistic support through a variety of approaches to help each woman create her own unique and satisfying experience of the journey to motherhood. I encourage women to become educated about their options, to consciously make choices that feel right for themselves, to enjoy their incredible changing bodies and to bond with the life growing within them. Beyond the services I offer, I enjoy being a resource for women to help them connect with other like-minded practitioners within the birthing community, as well as with other mamas.
I have taken over 150 hours of extra prenatal yoga training and have over 400hours of Prenatal Yoga teaching experience. I am is a Yoga Alliance Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (85hour), a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (200hours), a Certified Yoga Birth Method Instructor, Labour Doula (CAPPA), and Childbirth Educator (CAPPA), and am also one of the Prenatal Teacher Trainers at Namaskar Yoga Saskatoon.
My Path To Becoming A Doula
Pregnancy and childbirth have been fascinations of mine ever since I was a little girl. Nurturing and honoring pregnant women is my passion. Creating life within one’s own body seems to me like the most sacred, miraculous and natural process in the universe.
This passion coupled with my background in healthcare initially led me to begin my midwifery schooling, and from there I discovered the doula role and was thrilled to complete my doula training in 2009. That marked the beginning of walking a career path that allows me to serve pregnant and laboring women, as well as their families, in the optimal way they deserve!
I find great joy and inspiration in providing support for women engaged in this intense, transformative and rewarding journey. I believe that pregnancy and birth can be a celebration of life, a rite of passage that becomes a treasured memory for a woman’s lifetime and I am honoured each time a woman invites me to become a part of her process.
My Doula Philosophy
My highest priority as a birth doula is to help you have a positive and satisfying birth experience as you define it, whether that be a natural, medicated, or cesarean birth. My approach to doula support is practical, non-judgemental, loving, and evidence based. I strive to help create a birthing experience in which you feel in control, respected, well supported and cared for, and which leaves you feeling confident in your abilities. I believe the importance of the confidence a mother can gain from a positive birth experience cannot be overestimated, because even though parenting a newborn is one of the most joyful experiences a woman will ever go through, it is also one of the most challenging. A happy, well supported, and empowered mother enhances mother-baby bonding and provides an enduring foundation for a happy and healthy family. A mother will remember her birth experiences acutely for the rest of her life; I hope to help ensure that these memories fill her with confidence and remind her thatshe can do anything!
